The Editor-in-Chief titled his editorial this time as "Scouting gives you something to remember". Scouting is as we all know very well, a hobby for juveniles. It is also path to follow for a lifetime and that is something not to forget. However we, leaders, parents and all other people are here mainly to support and give young scout a chance to get most of scouting while in wolfpacks and in patrols. That is the primary age to gain those everlasting ideas, feelings and memories to make ones life better- better in the way the scout movement thinks it to be. And as we all know, it is a path to follow.

Troopleader of Turun Sinikotkat writes about the medals and other decorations given. He reminds us what for they are given and that the reason you get a decoration means truly that you have achieved something extraordinary. We, in Turun Sinikotkat, have no habit of decorating people without a cause, and therefore one should really appreciate and be proud of those he or she is given.

TSK 60 years- What's on this year?

This year is the 60th anniversary of Turun Sinikotkat (TSK). Our troop was founded 1937 and since it has been an actively arranging all kinds of events. TSK will have a jubilee hike to Hiidenjärvi National Park, north of Tampere in the beginning of June. At the and of July and beginning of August our troop will have an anniversary camp at our campsite Korsholm in Kemiö. The sailing yacht of the troop, Rhea, will also participate in many events of the year and the peak of the year will be the festival week in October, which is the week with somekind of celebration each day.

The leader of our Sea Scout departement, Juha Lehtonen, encourages youngsters and other members to sail on the following summer. Our yacht, Rhea, was repaired and adjusted heavily last winter and it is ready to confront the new summer with new challenges and new waters to sail.

Turun Sinikotkat has recently joined the Finnish Voluntary Rescue Service forming one searchchain of nearly twenty members in the ring, all other major local scout troops take part. All members of age 18 and up are encouraged to join in and try to do his best in saving human lives via the service operations.

The former leader of patroldivision in TSK, a student of educational sciences, Lauri Luoto, points out his views of current state of scouting in our troop and in general. He also presents few suggestions and ideas on what should be done to get as much of the newarriving cubs through the scouting career as possible. The main method is, according to him, the elevation of peerleadership in cubscouting as well as in the patrols.

A new set of general regulations for Turun Sinikotkat were accepted by general assembly in January. The main topics altered were the foundation of new Economic Council to administer budjet and funds of the troop, the status of the sea-scout department Sextant and also few other minor alterations here and there including the addition of patriotic education in the general goals of our troop.

The representatives of our sister troop Nuotiotytöt wrote how they felt our Jubilee winter camp in Kemiö. The camp was a traditional tenting camp held in the mid winter including some celebrations connected with our anniversary.

Turun Sinikotkat held a concertlunch the day before epiphany. For a 120 FIM guests had a full dinner including all dishes and programme. Programme consisted of music performed by the Turun Sinikotkat Brass Ensemble.

This is a new section of Kotkansiipi which is to include notes and reports from all those communities connected with TSK but working outside it including the mothers' and fathers' clubs, the Brass Ensemble and the TSK Tuki ry.

The patrol division of TSK arranged a camp for its older members (patrol leaders and their assistants) on a weekend. The theme of that particular happening was mainly relaxation.

The cubscout departement has as usual arranged something to do for the youngest scout brothers. Department had its own camp in Kunstenniemi as well as a own camp for just the leaders. Of the first mentioned wrote a group of cubs belonging to the Wednesday-pack.

Altti Holmroos nearly participated a rowtrip on Sextant to Hanko about 40 years ago. He demands why this kind of an operation couldn't be done also this year, now to the anniversary camp is Kemiö.
